Jenny McCarthy Is (Casually) Seeing a New Man

It looks like Jenny McCarthy may get her wish to smooch someone new at midnight this New Year's Eve.

McCarthy, 38, has been quietly seeing a new man, entertainment-sports attorney Paul Krepelka, 43.

"They've been on a couple dates," a source tells PEOPLE of the blossoming – and currently casual – relationship.

Krepelka, who hails from Massachusetts, is "a really nice guy," adds another source.

That should suit McCarthy, who recently revealed her desire to start dating "normal folks."

McCarthy, who will join Ryan Seacrest in Times Square as he hosts Dick Clar'’s New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest, split from boyfriend Jason Toohey earlier this month.

In April, McCarthy and longtime boyfriend Jim Carrey revealed they had split after five years together.

POLL: Should Couple Return to Game Show that Cost Them $800,000

TV News

By Alison Schwartz

Tuesday December 28, 2010 02:10 PM EST

How do you resolve an $800,000 mistake?

When Gabe Okoye and Brittany Mayti competed on the Dec. 20 premiere of Fox's Million Dollar Money Drop, they lost $800,000 when they answered a question about Post-it Notes. The duo bet that amount that the popular office supply was sold in stores before the Sony Walkman and the Macintosh computer. The couple's answer was deemed incorrect by the show, which claimed the Walkman hit shelves in 1979 and that Post-Its debuted in 1980.

But the game show has owned up to making an error: Executive producer Jeff Apploff admitted to CNN that Post-Its were "originally tested for sale" in 1977. Okoye and Mayti are now faced with another tough question: The show has invited the couple to return for a second shot at the $1 million prize.

But Okoye and Mayti are hesitant. "The show is in the business of asking people questions," Okoye tells CNN. "I really trusted them to have their I's dotted and T's crossed."

Asked about her relationship with costar and ex-boyfriend Sebastian Stan, she says, "I've only had one experience where it was really hard and I was really sad when it ended, but that's what taught me a lot about myself and love and life – and that's good."

Despite the heartbreak, Meester believes in love. "If I shut love down or didn't let it in, I would just be this really cold, sad person," she adds.

Reese Witherspoon & Jim Toth Are Engaged

Update Tuesday December 28, 2010 06:05 PM EST Originally posted Tuesday December 28, 2010 05:05 PM EST

Reese Witherspoon is ready to make it official with boyfriend Jim Toth: The couple are engaged, PEOPLE confirms.

The Oscar-winning actress, 34, and Toth, 40, began quietly dating last January and quickly grew serious about each other.

In October, a source close to Toth, an agent at Creative Artists Agency in Los Angeles, told PEOPLE he was smitten with Witherspoon.

"Jim knows Reese is the one for him," the source said. "It's what he's been waiting for. [Getting engaged] is a natural step for them."

Witherspoon was equally thrilled with the relationship, a source close to the actress told PEOPLE at the time. "Reese quickly realized that Jim was someone that she felt safe with and could count on," the source said.

Just as important, Toth bonded easily with Witherspoon's children, Ava, 11 and Deacon, 7, who she had with her ex-husband Ryan Phillippe.

"They have vacationed together with Reese's kids and everyone [got] along great," the source added.

Months before that, a source close to Witherspoon described a relationship on the fast track, with Witherspoon happy to be with someone "who's more mature and in a place in his life where he's ready to settle down. I think for the first time in a very long time, she feels as if she's with a grown-up."

Witherspoon's relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal ended in 2009. She split from Phillippe in 2006 after seven years of marriage.

Witherspoon currently stars in the romantic comedy How Do You Know. She won an Oscar in 2006 for her portrayal of June Carter Cash in Walk the Line.

Is Lily Allen Engaged?

It's been a rough year for Lily Allen, but it looks like the British singer is ending 2010 with some happy news.

She is engaged to longtime boyfriend, business owner Sam Cooper, according to the U.K.'s Daily Mail.

The paper reports that Allen, 25, "burst into tears" when Cooper, 32, popped the question on Christmas Day while they were vacationing in Bali.

A rep for Allen had no comment.

The reported engagement comes on the heels of heartbreak for the couple: Allen suffered a miscarriage in the fall. The baby had been due in January.

It was the second time Allen had endured a miscarriage. In January 2008, she went through the same ordeal during her relationship with musician Ed Simons.

According to the Daily Mail, Allen and Copper, who have been dating since July 2009, drank bubbly in the bar of their hotel to celebrate their engagement and happily shared their news with other guests.

Teen Mom's Amber Portwood Released from Jail

A day after she was put behind bars at the Madison County jail in Anderson, Ind., for slapping and choking her ex-fiancé, Teen Mom star Amber Portwood is a free woman.

The reality TV star was released from the jail Tuesday afternoon, a source at the jail tells PEOPLE. The court automatically entered a not guilty plea for Portwood before she was released, according to her lawyer.

On Monday, Portwood began a 24-hour hold stemming from criminal charges filed against her earlier in the day for a physical altercation she had with her ex, Gary Shirley, with whom she has a 2-year-old daughter, Leah.

Portwood, 20, was charged with three felonies, including two counts of domestic battery and one count of neglect of a dependent. She was also charged with one misdemeanor charge of domestic battery.

In July, Portwood told PEOPLE that that fight, which was captured by MTV cameras, was difficult for her to watch when it aired.

"I don't like seeing myself in that way," she said at the time. "It portrays me how I am in that moment, but it's not me, and I don't want people thinking I'm just a physical person because I'm not."

She'd also begun mixed martial arts training, as a form of self-defense and an outlet for aggression.

"It's a great stress reliever," she said. "It's amazing."

Alex Welch Is Happy About Settlement with Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato and dancer Alex Welch have made peace for the holidays: The Disney Channel star has reached a settlement with Welch, the dancer she struck.

"I'm happy. We came to an agreement and I'm ready to move on," Alex "Shorty" Welch, a member of the all-female dance crew, Beat Freaks, tells PEOPLE. "I'm ready to start working again."

Lovato, 18, has been in treatment for emotional and physical issues since the altercation took place in October during the South American leg of the Jonas Brothers's world tour.

According to Welch, the punch came after Lovato was confronted by tour managers about her conduct the previous night. The incident left Welch with a black eye and a bruised left cheekbone, and the dancer considered legal action prior to the resolution.

Lovato's reps had no comment on the settlement.

Welch, 21, would not disclose the terms of the settlement but said that the agreement called for a portion of the settlement to be donated to charity. "That's important," she says.

Rehab Worker Drops Complaint Against Lindsay Lohan: Report

Dawn Holland – the former Betty Ford Center staffer Lindsay Lohan allegedly assaulted – is dropping her criminal complaint against the starlet, reports

Lohan, 24, was under police investigation for battery against the former rehab worker, who was fired by the clinic for violating confidentiality guidelines. But Holland's lawyer, Keith Davidson, says no further action will be taken because "a crime has quite simply not been committed by Ms. Lohan."

"Dawn will not continue to press charges against Lindsay, nor will she be assisting any further in the investigation or prosecution," Davidson says.

Davidson says Holland – who alleged that Lohan was "out of control" earlier this week, causing a sprain in her right arm and hand – sympathizes with Lohan. The two share a similar struggle: They're both recovering addicts.

Davidson adds that Holland does not want "in any way shape or form to do anything that would violate Lindsay's probation or cause an arrest."

Katie Holmes Goes Children's Clothes Holiday Shopping

With days before Christmas, Katie Holmes dropped into a favorite French-based children's clothing boutique in Beverly Hills recently to pick out gifts for six children – including 4-year-old daughter Suri.

"Her tastes were very classic," another customer, who was inside the Bonpoint shop on Brighton Way at the same time, tells PEOPLE. "Very practical."

Among the purchases: sweaters in caramel and grey for a 10-year-old girl and a jacket and slacks outfit for a very young boy.

Other selections were a bit more "fanciful," the source says, including "a princess dress for a girl [of] about 8 or so."

Holmes also picked out a short gold dress and ruby red shoes, described as "very red carpet," as well as some beach-ready shoulder-strapped sundresses.

Like husband Tom Cruise, Holmes is spotted regularly at the upscale shop, which scents and color-codes its packages: pink for girls, khaki for boys. Other celebrity clients of the brand include Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Julia Roberts, Salma Hayek and Jessica Alba.

Camille Grammer and Kyle Richards Make Peace - Sort of

After Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Camille Grammer's cocktail party turned into dinner and a (horror) show, there was only one way to settle the drama: another party.

On Thursday night's episode of the Bravo series, fellow Housewife Taylor Armstrong played hostess, throwing a lavish flapper-themed bash. Despite uncertainty over whether Grammer would once again collide with Kyle Richards – or if the two ladies would show at all – no one was roaring at each other at the Roaring Twenties affair.

"From this night on, I want to put it all behind us," Grammer says in the episode.

And while not all the castmates were buying into their kiss-and-make-up routine, Grammer says she's done with the dramatics – a change of pace from her earlier statement that she had "no interest in making amends with Kyle," whom she described as "awful and vile."

"I always take the high road – I try," she says. "That's my motto here."

And when Richards approached Grammer at the party, there was no mention of the text message Grammer sent her before the run-in. In the message, Richards said Grammer put the breaks on their friendship and her business relationship with Kyle's husband, Mauricio Umansky, a high-end realtor.

Although Richards said she would "never be able to trust [Grammer] again" prior to the party, she later offered up an analogy to explain their rocky relationship.

"If we were being set up, we would never go on a date again," Richards says. "But since we're not on a date, we can give it another shot."

Tasha Smith Gets Married - in Her Living Room

There's no place like home – for your wedding.

When actress Tasha Smith exchanged vows with husband Keith Douglas earlier this month, the couple kept the ceremony low-key, holding the affair in the living room of their Los Angeles house.

"We discussed having a small wedding with close family and friends, but instead, we decided to hold a very simple, intimate ceremony with just us and our pastor," Smith, 39, tells Essence. "We prayed about it, and it just felt right for us."

Smith and Douglas, an entrepreneur, announced their engagement six months ago.

For Smith – who next appears on the big screen alongside Angela Bassett and Paula Patton in romantic comedy Jumping the Broom – the wedding is a fairytale ending to a less-than-perfect past.

"I've been to the worst place I could ever be," she told PEOPLE in 2007 of her childhood in Camden, N.J., where she grew up in a city wrought with gangsters, drugs and poverty – and one of the highest murder rates in the nation. "But I always had a dream."

Smith was previously married to a youth counselor, who she divorced in 2007. Now back from her Sin City honeymoon at the Lake Las Vegas resort, she says her wedding was the best way to cap off the year.

"It was a beautiful, blessed moment that we will remember forever," she says.

Bachelorette's Ali Fedotowsky & Roberto Martinez Spending First Christmas Together

What a difference a year makes – especially for Bachelorette star Ali Fedotowsky.

"A year ago I had just gotten home from filming The Bachelor," recalls Fedotowsky, who, at the time, was one of four women vying for the affection of Dallas pilot Jake Pavelka.

On the show, she made the shocking decision to withdraw from the program and return to her job at Facebook, which caused an uproar with fans and wreaked havoc on her nerves.

"I was like, 'I don't have love. This sucks,' " Fedotowsky tells PEOPLE. "I bought a really expensive pair of boots that cost as much as my rent to make me feel better."

Fast-forward: Fedotowsky went on to star on The Bachelorette, fall in love and get engaged to insurance agent Roberto Martinez, with whom she now lives.

"Last year I was filling a void with boots, and this year I have Roberto," says Fedotowsky, who's excited that the couple will celebrate their first Christmas together.

They've decked out their San Diego home with all of her favorite things. "It's decorated with silver and red balls and little fairies," Fedotowsky says. "I love this collection from Hallmark and every year they come out with a new fairy and I put them on the tree."

Next year, things might be different. "I want to do a major league baseball theme," Martinez says with a laugh. "No, whatever makes her happy is fine with me."

Indeed, the two are grateful that amidst the chaos of looking for love on television, they found each other.

"Last year I was single, missing that piece in my life," Martinez says. "Now I have it. I'm appreciative of that."

Jersey Shore's Pauly D Getting His Own Show

Jersey Shore

By Tim Nudd

Thursday December 23, 2010 08:00 AM EST

Let the Jersey Shore spinoffs begin.

Paul DelVecchio, aka DJ Pauly D, has signed a series option deal with MTV for a new show that would focus on his burgeoning music career away from the beach, Variety reports.

"At the heart of Jersey Shore is the unique and genuine cast, and Pauly D truly embodies both qualities," MTV programming chief Chris Linn says. "We know viewers are curious about his life away from the shore, and we look forward to exploring new possibilities around that."

A pilot has already been filmed. DelVecchio is a rising star on the DJ circuit, and has released his first single with Universal Republic Records from the Jersey Shore soundtrack.

A spinoff is hardly a surprise, given Jersey Shore's runaway success. It is MTV's highest-rated show of all time and basic cable's top show for 2010 among viewers 12-34.

Is Lindsay Lohan Headed Back to Jail?

The revolving jail door may be spinning once again for Lindsay Lohan, who's under police investigation for battery against a rehab worker.

L.A. Superior Court Judge Elden Fox may be faced with having to make good on his threat of more incarceration for Lohan if she violated probation in a DUI case.

"If the latest allegations are true, it just spells disaster for Lindsay," says L.A. criminal defense attorney Richard Hirsch, who's not involved with the case. "After all the chances she's had, the judge may have no other option left."

Two months ago, Fox spared Lohan from jail after she failed a drug test, convinced that the actress – an admitted addict – needed more treatment and ordered her to remain at the Betty Ford Center until at least Jan. 3.

"I agree that relapse is a part of recovery, but I'm not going to be manipulated," Fox said, threatening her with six months behind bars if she slipped up again.

The actress, 24, has so far served three stints at a Lynwood, Calif., jail.

"Judge Fox isn't one to make idle threats," says another L.A. criminal defense attorney, Steve Sitkoff. "Especially if he decides that Lindsay was the instigator in the scuffle with the Betty Ford employee, that'll make him more likely to punish her with jail instead of treatment."

As of Wednesday, both the L.A. District Attorney and Fox had not been officially notified of Lohan's alleged infractions.

Top Chef: All Stars: Who Got Served This Week?

Let's give a big hootie-hoo to Carla Hall, who nabbed her first Top Chef: All-Stars victory in Wednesday's episode – a strenuous challenge that found the chefs competing head-to-head at the US Open.

Split into two teams – orange and yellow – the chefs each devised a dish that would be appropriate to serve to tennis players and US Open-attendees. Translation: their food needed to be elegant, light and healthful.

At first, it seemed like Hall could end up in the bottom: She insisted on making an African nut stew – healthy, sure, but not necessarily to the liking of her teammates. No matter, though, the Washington, D.C.-based chef stuck to her guns – and showed a resilient spirit even as she sliced her finger in the kitchen. (Unlike Jamie Lauren weeks earlier, Hall decided to bandage herself and keep it moving, earning her the respect of her fellow chefs.)

A major element in this week's challenge was strategy – which Angelo Sosa knows something about. Portrayed at times as underhanded and wily, Sosa and his team decided they would send out their worst dish first and assume that the other team would send out their best dish. True, they'd lose the first point, but the team hoped they would lower expectations and then handily beat their competitors.

In reality, the strategy fell apart from the get-go. Jamie refused to serve her dish which features undercooked chickpeas. (In fact, she never served anything in this challenge!). So Casey Thompson sent out her dish, but fell to Fabio Viviani, who made whole wheat gnocchi that impressed guest judge Tony Mantuano.

As the competition rolled on, it looked as if it could be anybody's game – until team orange eventually pulled ahead after Richard Blais bested Spike Mendelsohn, whose soup dish got some (possibly unwanted?) help from Sosa and his teammates. The judges ultimately took issue with Spike's bland shrimp, but the chef claims the dish he served wasn't of his own creation. Did his team tamper with his dish too much?

In the final round, Carla served against Tre Wilcox, who was immune from elimination after winning the Quickfire challenge – and $20,000 in the process. The judges didn't love his salmon dish, so Hall won the round and, later, earned a nod of approval from the judges, who named her the winner of the entire challenge. Her prize? A trip to Italy.

Unfortunately, Spike was eliminated this week. And while he didn't take responsibility for his final dish, despite his team's interventions, he had to answer for it.

New York Jets Coach and Wife in Foot-Fetish Scandal

Best foot forward? Not exactly for New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan.

The coach is declining to comment after he and his wife Michelle have allegedly been linked to online profiles on several foot-fetish dating sites, reports the New York Post. Mildly kinky videos have also surfaced allegedly showing Michelle modeling her feet for her husband.

Ryan, 48, was barraged with questions about the issue at a press conference on Wednesday but repeatedly insisted it was "a personal matter" that he would not discuss.

The Web-site profiles explicitly detail a couple's sexual interests, including threesomes and sexual "torture."

Ryan and his wife were college sweethearts. "My wife's beautiful," Ryan said Wednesday. "We've been married for 23 years. She's awesome."

Monaco's Prince Albert and Bride to Marry Outdoors

By Peter Mikelbank and Stephen M. Silverman

Thursday December 23, 2010 08:45 AM EST

Tradition, be gone: In an unprecedented move, Monaco's Prince Albert and Charlene Wittstock will marry in an al fresco religious ceremony at their wedding next year, it was announced by the palace Wednesday.

The July 2, 2011, service will take place in the Palace's Court of Honor. In another new – and uncharacteristic – gesture, palace gates will be left open and giant TV monitors set up to allow some 4,000 people to view the wedding service when it is held in the Place du Palais.

The "religious ceremony will be held at 5 p.m. in the courtyard where we have the long staircase," a palace spokesperson tells PEOPLE. "It will be an open-air event."

A source added, "Whether these 4,000 will be invited guests or [members of the] public is still being discussed."

Monsignor Bernard Barsi, Archbishop of Monaco, will conduct the religious ceremony and Mass. Plans also call for the wedding to be telecast live internationally, just as was the April 1956 religious ceremony of Albert's parents, the screen star Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier – a pioneering event in its day.

Prince Albert and Wittstock's civil service, which is required by law, will be held the day before the religious service, on Friday, July 1, in the Palace Throne Room. Presiding at this ceremony, which is expected to involve no more than 100 family members, relatives and friends, will be the Principality's royal registrar Phillipe Narmino.

Earlier this year, Prince Albert jokingly announced that he had "officially" forbade it to rain on his wedding day.

As for who will design the bridal gown, sources say Wittstock is deciding between Christian Dior and Giorgio Armani.

Lady Gaga Shops Pantless in Paris

Quite obviously, Lady Gaga simply didn’t have a thing to wear in Paris. Before the second of two concerts on Tuesday, the pop star left her Place Vendôme hotel late in the afternoon, “wearing a leather jacket,” according to one eyewitness. “She had on a matching beige string, big black fishnet stockings and really high, high heels…but no pants!” Gaga, who displayed a similar wardrobe preference last summer at a New York Mets game, evidently felt a quick change of heart—or the afternoon’s near-freezing temperature. Within minutes, her car stopped along the rue Richelieu, where she headed into a recently opened Bruce Field boutique. “Lady Gaga came in at 5:15,” an employee tells PEOPLE, “and she bought a number of things.” Bruce Field is a discreet upscale boutique featuring classic Ivy League style clothing for men and women. Among the items a still-pantless Gaga and an assistant brought up from the downstairs try-on area and piled onto the shop’s counter, an eyewitness says, “were pants and a lot of scarves. Most everything in purple.” Did she buy pants? “I can’t tell you,” the shop employee says. “I can tell you she stayed about 20 minutes and when she left there were some 30 photographers–and loads of fans–outside. It’s been a most unusual afternoon.” –Peter Mikelbank

Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams (Coyly) Deny They're Dating

They've been knocking down romance rumors for months now, and he's been spotted getting close to Blake Lively recently.

But it seems Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams still want to keep everyone guessing.

In an interview with ABC News Nightline airing Tuesday, host Cynthia McFadden asks the Blue Valentine costars, both 30, if they're a couple.

As they exchange long glances, Gosling, who also calls her a "sexy cowboy" in the interview, whistles as if to pretend he didn't hear the question and Williams can't stop smiling. Gosling puts his arm around Michelle shakes her head "no" with a broad, mysterious grin.

After a long pause, McFadden is not convinced. "I don't believe that," she says.

Later, Gosling responds to questions of his truthfulness by joking, "I always look like I'm lying. It's just – that's my face."

They appeared equally besotted back in May, when Blue Valentine screened in Cannes and the pair stayed close and held hands for much of the night; before that they got cozy at the Sundance Film Festival in January.

Housekeeper Jailed for Stealing Jewelry from Paula Deen

An unsavory chapter in Paula Deen's life has come to a close, as a former housekeeper has been sentenced to jail for stealing jewelry from the Food Network chef.

Mary Alice White of Savannah, Ga., received 18 months in prison followed by six years of probation after pleading guilty in the case, the Savannah Morning News reports.

"The scars she left behind emotionally can't begin to be measured. Our hearts are sad," Deen, 63, told the judge. She added: "Mary White is the most feared and destroying kind of thief you may ever run up against. Mary was a master at making you think she cares about you ... She used our love and kindness against" us.

Deen's husband, Michael Groover, told the judge that when he told his wife of the theft, she "cried and said, 'Oh no, not my Mary.' "

Police said White pawned some $27,500 worth of jewelry owned by Deen. The chef and her husband reported some $100,000 worth of jewelry missing between Aug. 1, 2009, and May 1, 2010.

Groover added: "Nobody but Mary knows everything she stole from us."

Paris Hilton's Flight Evacuated After Knife Found Onboard

Paris Hilton and beau Cy Waits were among those evacuated from a Delta flight Tuesday morning when a knife was found onboard.

A passenger discovered the "big knife" in a seat pocket before takeoff from LAX to Maui, and security was called, according to Hilton's Twitter page.

Calling the incident "scary," Hilton writes, "They just finished the security sweep of the plane. About to board again. So strange a knife got on board. Can't wait to get to Maui."

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ the 4-inch serrated blade appeared to be no threat: the knife was actually a box-cutter belonging to the airline crew.

Bret Michaels: Being Engaged Feels Awesome

Yep, he did it.

"They swore I was the guy who would never," Bret Michaels, who asked his on-off girlfriend of 16 years Kristi Gibson to be his wife on the Monday night finale of his VH1 reality show, Bret Michaels: Life As I Know It, tells PEOPLE. "And it feels awesome."

The rocker had been thinking about proposing but couldn't seem to find the right moment. It seemed like everyone was geared up for it to happen at the anniversary dinner the night before at Mastro's, but Michaels, 47, felt like there were too many waiters and other patrons milling around.

"I wasn't ready there because I felt really strange," he says. "It would've been like, I'm in the middle of proposing and oh, by the way, there's a Cobb salad coming."

The real moment, filmed a couple weeks ago, came spontaneously instead, in the middle of a heart-to-heart with Gibson on the balcony of their Arizona home, says Michaels (whose parents divorced when he was 15).

"In my mind, it wasn't supposed to happen like that – I wanted it to be a little more like the movies, where the white horse gallops up and all that stuff," he says. "But when Kristi said, 'I don't need this ring, I don't need the piece of paper, I love you no matter what,' she took the pressure off."

"She used reverse psychology on me," Michaels says, "and it worked!"

"After that, I was so in the moment, I didn't feel like there was anyone around us," says Michaels, who laughs at how their daughters Jorja, 5, and Raine, 10, responded when they heard the news.

Says the rocker: "They were like, 'What? Who? What's going on?'"

Gibson is elated, too.

"I love him for him," says Gibson, who turns 40 Dec. 25. "I've been through everything with him. A ring and a paper wouldn't make me love him more. I'm just happy he's alive."

"But this is the best birthday and Christmas present ever," she says. "We'll be virgins stepping into the whole engagement and marriage thing. And with our girls growing up, we'll all have the same last name."

The engagement ring – formerly their "friendship ring with mega benefits" – will probably be revamped to reflect its new special status, says Gibson, noting that their jeweler Jacquelin Nerguizian has two rows of black diamonds that may be added to the huge cushion-cut rock with pave diamonds.

Though they haven't set a date yet – "It may be the longest engagement in history," says Michaels," but my intentions are good" – Gibson has an idea of where she'd like to tie the knot.

"Ever since I was young, I always said I'd want to go to some tropical island and get married on the beach," she says, adding that she'd love a dress like the one Megan Fox wore when she wed Brian Austin Green.

"I seriously would not want a big wedding," Gibson says. "So maybe we'll go away and then have a huge kick-ass party with family and friends."

For now, Michaels is just basking in getting over his personal demons.

"It was as real and sincere as it gets, and I feel absolutely great," he says. "And hopefully it'll work."

Bus Fire Snuffs Out Kings of Leon Show in London

Kings of Leon had to postpone a sold-out show in London on Tuesday after a blaze on one of their buses spread to another until both were burned out, the BBC News reports.

It's the latest bizarre mishap to befall the Tennessee band, whose biggest hit is called "Sex on Fire." In July, they had to shut down a show in St. Louis because of flying pigeon poop.

While that incident posed dangers – their managers claimed the droppings falling on the band as they played were a "health hazard" – this time it was more serious, with six people treated for smoke inhalation by ambulance crews. About 60 firefighters attended the scene.

A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade said the smoke posed the biggest problem.

"Our crews did a fantastic job, especially given the levels of smoke down here which has led to quite challenging conditions," Sally Cartwright told the BBC. "The O2's sprinkler system successfully activated and this also helped firefighters bring the blaze swiftly under control."

Lindsay Lohan Named a Suspect in Assault Case at Rehab

Just weeks away from completing her court-ordered stay at the Betty Ford Center, Lindsay Lohan is being investigated by police after allegedly assaulting a female employee at the clinic.

Palm Desert police conducted a battery investigation at the scene at about 1 a.m. on Dec. 12. "The victim desired prosecution," says Sgt. Joe Borja of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. "The incident is being investigated as a misdemeanor."

A source close to Lohan, 24, says the actress denies pushing the woman first. The staffer scolded Lohan for allegedly returning past curfew after spending the evening at a local bar, TMZ reports.

It isn't known whether she had been drinking; the Betty Ford Center regularly tests patients for alcohol and drugs.

Sgt. Borja explains that no arrest was made because the incident didn't occur in front of an officer.

Lohan, 24, has been at the Rancho Mirage, Calif., facility since Sept. 28, and was ordered by a Beverly Hills judge to remain there until at least Jan. 3.

It remains to be seen whether the incident would be deemed a violation of Lohan's probation terms stemming from her ongoing DUI case. A violation could send her back to jail.

As of Tuesday, Beverly Hills Superior Court Judge Elden Fox, who's overseeing her case, has not been notified, according to a court source.

Kate Middleton Praised by Young Cancer Patients at Charity Event

Kate Middleton was commended for how she helped put young cancer sufferers at ease during her first official event as a royal fiancée on Saturday.

Middleton, 28, cut a stylish figure in an Alice Temperley dress on her way past photographers, and earned high marks from seven young patients she and Prince William met during the interval of the charity Christmas fundraising concert in Norfolk, England.

"They took a genuine interest in what I'd been through and the operation I had," Rosie Van Raalte, 16, from Little Melton, Norfolk, says in a statement. "The conversation flowed really well, and they made me feel relaxed, as I was really nervous before I saw them. Once I started talking, I relaxed and even forgot that I was talking to a Prince!"

Lucy Smith, 23, from Norwich, added, "We spoke about my treatment and how much the Teenage Cancer Trust had helped me. They were both very friendly, relaxed and down to earth, and I enjoyed meeting them."

A third patient, Adam Brown, 22, from Roughton, Norwich, added his praise, saying, "The Prince asked me what age I was when I was first diagnosed and what my ongoing treatment is like. They were both very pleasant and nice to talk to."

The concert helped raise $54,000 for the Teenage Cancer Trust's local campaign to build the first specialist cancer unit for young people 13-24 at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge.

William and Kate, who are due to be married on April 29, sat together to watch the Christmas Spectacular, which included singing, dancing, magic and ventriloquism.

"We feel incredibly privileged that both Prince William and Miss Middleton gave up their valuable time and lent their support to Teenage Cancer Trust's fundraising appeal," Simon Davies, the group's chief executive, said in a statement.

Shaquille O'Neal Conducts the Boston Pops

Shaquille O'Neal, whose talent knows no bounds, branched out into orchestral conducting on Monday night in a slam-dunk performance with the Boston Pops.

The Boston Celtics star, 38, led the famous orchestra and the Tanglewood Festival Chorus in a rousing rendition of "Sleigh Ride" as part of the Holiday Pops Concert at Boston's Symphony Hall.

He might not be the most accomplished conductor in the orchestra's 125-year history, but at 7-foot-1, he is officially the tallest. And while it wasn't NBA-caliber grueling, he said the performance was a workout.

"Actually, you know, I have a whole new respect for conductors," he said before the performance. "I went through a rehearsal today, and my arms are shot right now."

When Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron ended their four-year relationship, sources said they remained close. Hudgens is validating that sentiment.

"We're good," she said Saturday night when asked how things are between the two of them, while giving a thumbs up.

The starlet seemed in high spirits as she celebrated her 22nd birthday at Las Vegas's Pure Nightclub. With her BFF's Ashley Tisdale and Brittany Snow with her, Hudgens was seen dancing on a couch at her VIP area inside the club. (Efron did not attend).

Though her year is ending with her split from Efron, Hudgens told PEOPLE that 2010 was a "good year".

"I worked a lot in 2009. I did two movies back to back, so this year I just hung out, took it easy, did a play which was a lot of fun, did a movie and now the year is coming to an end before I know it."

Donning a silver metallic dress by Pleasure Doing Business, the Sucker Punch actress said she has no New Year's resolutions, but she anticipates 2011 will be very busy – at least professionally.

Train's Pat Monahan Reminiscences About Childhood Holidays

Thanks for welcoming our newest celebrity blogger — Pat Monahan! The Train frontman is dad to two teens — Patrick, 17, and Emelia, 13 — as well as Autumn, his 2-year-old daughter with wife Amber.

In addition to Train — who have a holiday hit with “Shake Up Christmas” and were just nominated for a Grammy for Best Pop Performance — Monahan also voices the lead character on Sprout’s Driver Dan’s Story Train.

In his latest blog, Monahan, 41, reminiscences about his favorite childhood memories, shares his hopes for his own kids — and opens up about resolutions for the new year.

When I think back to my favorite things about my childhood holidays, I don’t recall too many gifts. Most or all of my favorite things about this time of year are moments I had with people that changed my life.

I see myself on the steps at age 6, unable to sleep, peering around the corner trying to catch a glimpse of some grand event. I remember wrapping paper and laughter and tears when relatives went back to their homes or back to college. I remember the smell of the cookies my mother baked and the look in her eyes when she smiled at her babies (all seven of us!).

As I grew older and became an uncle, I hear new babies crying and giggling, and recall children throwing snowballs at my car as I wished I could join them — then chasing them to make it more exciting.

I remember the heart of the American holiday season. I remember having a broken heart during my first Christmas without my mother and the lost feeling of our family. I remember when our family was broken and I recall when we found ourselves again and laughed and ate and drank and laughed and cried and drank and … well, that’s probably good enough — it got a little weird. ;)

I want my children to have that in their memory bank. I want them to look back and see us playing Candy Land and putting milk and cookies out. I want them to care about the moments, not the gifts and know that the moments ARE the gifts.

All I can ask of my children is that one day they look back fondly at a few moments I have provided them with during those seasons of joy. Even when there was no snow and few friends and family around, we have always had one another and we have always felt like we belonged to one another.

I want that for my children forever. I want them to know that they belong to something. They belong to the moments and memories that we have shared. They belong to me and I belong to them and if there is a stray person that seems to have no one then pull them in so they have something to belong to because we’re all connected.

I’ve always thought highly of those who serve — whether they are serving in the armed forces or serving you coffee — and I love the ones who choose to do it with class and kindness. It’s an honor to be of service. This holiday season and in the new year to come, I plan to be of service on a higher level.

It’s time to shed some old habits and fill my space with more love, more humility and more forgiveness. It’s time for me to give more of myself and expect less in return.

It is time to be more like my parents, who provided me with these amazing holiday memories that still make me tear up just thinking about their kindness and love. Even with seven children, they seemed to make us all feel individual and special. They weren’t perfect and I sure as heck am not, but striving for perfection can be a heart breaker in the end. Time to be okay with doing my best.

So, thank you Mom and Dad for all of these great memories. I hardly remember even one gift other than the time and love you put in to making the holidays special for me and your other kiddos. Maybe some day my kids will look back and love their past as well.

Merry everything, everyone! I hope these times are filled with everything your hearts desire and a whole lotta love.

Top Chef: All-Stars: Which Chefs Are You Rooting For?

You rooted for them over the years – and now 18 chefs were back and ready to taste redemption on Top Chef: All-Stars, which began Wednesday night.

Of the Top Chef hopefuls this go-around, producers selected an array of personalities – from villains (season 2's Marcel Vigneron) to comic relief (season 5's Fabio Viviani) and fan favorites (like season 5's Carla Hall and season 7's Tiffany Derry) – to make sure the competition is anything but bland.

Add to that mix guest judge Anthony Bourdain, whose prickly personality, sharp way with words and exacting palate will hold the chefs up to the highest of standards.

And, since all 18 competitors came this close to clinching victory on their respective seasons, you can bet they're not here for recipe practice.

It was obvious from last night's episode that the chefs are being held to the fire starting from the very first challenge where they are asked to remake the dishes that sent them home. And they have to use same the ingredients and undergo the same restrictions they initially endured.

Time may have given the chefs a chance for reflection, and Wednesday's episode finds many approaching their ill-fated dishes with thoughtful revisions. But it certainly hasn't dulled their competitive instincts. Or their fighting temperaments. Many sassed the judges back, especially Fabio, who was less than thrilled with Bourdain's withering critique of his food.

Alas, the second time wasn't the charm for Elia Aboumrad, who was the first chef asked to leave the competition, leaving Fabio and Stephen Asprinio in the bottom – but still safe for another day.

And one of the distinct pleasures of watching Top Chef: All-Stars last night was the possibility that it's absolutely anybody's game. Who's a frontrunner in a competition of frontrunners? The competition insists you check your preconceptions about these chefs at the kitchen door and just let their work surprise you in this new context. And surprises are in store.

As the chefs gear up for another week, here are the three we're rooting for this season:

Carla Hall: A third-place finisher in season 5, Hall took herself out of her comfort zone in the finale, trying out new techniques and steering away from the soul food that endeared her to fans and judges. Here's hoping she sticks to her own singular (and joyful) vision this season. Can we get a hootie-hoo?

Jennifer Carroll: Edged out of at the very end of season 6 and leaving an all-male finale, the Philadelphia-based chef is super-serious about her food. We love her steely determination, precision and tough-as-nails attitude in the kitchen and wish that her laser-like focus will propel her to the finale once again.

Richard Blais: The Atlanta-based chef, and molecular gastronomy guru, faltered in season 4's finale, but his innovative touch and intellectual (and unexpected) combination of ingredients has rendered him one of Top Chef's most inspiring contestants ever. Here's hoping his signature coiff and scientific approach to cooking lead him to victory this time.

She got engaged last month to Dancing with the Stars alum Chad Ochocinco, and now Basketball Wives star Evelyn Lozada tells PEOPLE that the Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver is the man of her dreams.

"He gets who I am, supports my dreams and loves me unconditionally," she tells PEOPLE. "I just knew he was the one from me."

After he met her online – "Believe it or not, you can find love on Twitter,"Lozada, the co-owner of the shoe boutique Dulce, exclaims – Ochocinco proposed to Lozada with a 10-carat Jacob of Beverly Hills ring.

"I couldn't be happier with my engagement to Chad," says Lozada, who was previously engaged to NBA player Antoine Walker. "Our friendship is true love and respect and is unlike anything that I have ever experienced."

Now, the couple are not only enjoying their engagement and looking forward to combining their families – Chad has children from previous relationships and Lozada has a daughter – but, perhaps, making some new additions.

"Evelyn has been dying to have kids and is looking forward to starting a family with Ocho," a source tells PEOPLE.

And while Lozada's show – which returns to VH1 on Dec. 12 – focuses on her life in the basketball world, she's since switched sports: "I am definitely now a Bengals fan!"

Bryant Gumbel Is 'Free and Clear' One Year After Health Crisis

Last December, Bryant Gumbel shocked a live television audience when he revealed he recently had surgery to remove a malignant tumor and part of his lung.

A year later, Gumbel, 62, tells PEOPLE his prognosis is excellent.

"I'm still doing well," he said at the UNICEF Snowflake Ball Tuesday in New York City. "Doctors tell me I'm free and clear, so I hope for better times."

Gumbel revealed his health crisis last year while filling in for Regis Philbin on Live with Regis and Kelly. "They opened up my chest, they took out a malignant tumor, they took out part of my lung and they took out some other goodies," he said at the time.

The surgery took place two months before he revealed it on Live, and Gumbel said he kept it quiet at the time, not even revealing it to the staff of his HBO show Real Sports.

On Tuesday, Gumbel looked thin but wore a big smile as he walked the red carpet with his wife, Hilary Gumbel, who served on the event's gala committee.

"I've got very little to complain about," he told PEOPLE about life now. "I'm doing well."

Christina Aguilera: Why I Filed for Divorce

Christina Aguilera remembers vividly how she felt as she signed the papers in her divorce from music exec Jordan Bratman.

"Things were so unhealthy and unhappy for both Jordan and me, I knew I had to end it," the Burlesque star, 29, tells PEOPLE in an exclusive interview. "I really didn't want to hurt Jordan, and I felt torn about splitting our family up."

The decision to end her marriage of five years was not easy for Aguilera, but she strongly felt she had to do what she thought best for her and Jordan's 2-year-old son.

"When you're unhappy in your marriage, your children are the ones who suffer," says the Grammy-winning pop singer, whose own parents' tumultuous relationship led to divorce when she was 7. "That's the last thing I wanted for my son."

Since filing for divorce, Aguilera has been out in Los Angeles and New York City with a new man, Matthew Rutler, a set assistant on Burlesque.

"He's the kind of person you could spend hours with on the phone talking to and all of a sudden it's daylight," she says.

Dr. William Petit to Court: I Considered Suicide

Dr. William Petit Jr. told a packed Connecticut courtroom on Thursday how his life was shattered forever the night his wife and two daughters were murdered during a July 2007 home invasion, calling that night "my own personal Holocaust."

"I lost my entire family," Dr. Petit, speaking for nearly 30 minutes, said as part of his victim-impact statement. "I lost shared records of our entire lives together due to the fire. Plus I lost my past and my future."

While a jury sentenced Steven Hayes, 47, to death last month for his role in the murders, the judge did not officially impose the sentence until Thursday.

Hayes and Joshua Komiserjevsky, 30, stood accused of holding the Petit family hostage for hours before setting the house on fire on July 23, 2007. Dr. Petit's wife, Jennifer-Hawke-Petit, 47, was strangled to death and his daughters, Michaela, 11, and Hayley, 17, died of smoke inhalation. Komiserjevsky goes on trial for the crimes next year.

Petit and three other members of his and his late wife's families spoke through tears about the impact the tragedy has had on them.

"We lost the Bill we knew," Bill Petit Sr., with his wife by his side, said of their son. "Our son went from being someone with everything to live for to one with doubts about whether he should be living at all."

Bill Petit Jr. admitted he's had many suicidal thoughts over the last three years and said he got no more than two hours of sleep the first three months after the deaths. When he finally got on a medication that helped him sleep, he said he was tormented by nightmares, ones he struggles with to this day.

"The mornings are often bad," he said. "I wake up and for a split second I think my world is normal. There is a giant hole in my heart."

Hayes spoke in the courtroom, as well. Dr. Petit would not even look at him.

"Apologizing will not bring his family back," Hayes said, "but I am deeply sorry for my actions and the pain and suffering I have caused." Of his sentence, he said, "Death will be a relief, and I hope it brings some peace and comfort to those I hurt so much."

After Hayes spoke, Superior Court Judge Jon Blue, calling it "a sentence you wrote for yourself in flames on July 23, 2007," officially ordered him to be put to death. He set an execution date of May 27, 2011, but noted the state Supreme Court reviews all death sentences.

"Your fate is now in the hands of others," said the judge. "May God have mercy on your soul."

Reese Witherspoon Shares Her 'Star' Moment with Her Kids

When Reese Witherspoon received her coveted star on Hollywood's star-studded Walk of Fame Wednesday, she had a little support from her two favorite costars: her kids, Ava, 11, and Deacon, 7.

The Walk the Line Oscar winner, 34, is star No. 2,425 to receive the honor, and James L. Brooks, who wrote and directed Witherspoon's latest movie, How Do You Know, introduced the actress to the crowd gathered on Hollywood Boulevard, reports the Los Angeles Times.

Also joining in to mark the moment: Bruiser (not pictured), Witherspoon's canine costar from Legally Blonde.

Witherspoon posed for pictures while her boyfriend, agent Jim Toth, kept her parents company in the audience.

Official "star" status aside, Witherspoon's kids – from her marriage to ex-husband Ryan Phillippe – see her as a "regular, embarrassing old mom."

"Realizing you're not anything special to the kids is always a great sort of reminder that you're just a regular person," she told Parents magazine in February 2009. "They know what I do for a living – that I'm an actress – but they haven't seen any of my movies yet."

Bruno Mars Reacts to Grammy Noms with F-Word: Fantastic

With seven Grammy nominations to his name, Bruno Mars isn't hung up on numbers – or trophies.

"It's been a hell of a year for all of us, and the fact that we did record these songs not too far from here in this little shabby studio, and here we are with Grammy nominations, is a little surreal," the "Just the Way You Are" singer, 25, tells PEOPLE. "We're just thankful."

His nominations include Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance, as well as nods for songwriting. But there's someone else the singer-producer, is rooting for at the Feb. 13 ceremony: Cee-Lo Green.

Bruno helped Green, 36, pen his hit "F–– You," which is up for Song of the Year. "I think that's one of our favorite songs that we've ever produced," he says. "And [I've] been such a fan of Cee Lo, always wanted to work with him."

Adds Mars: When we did that song, he just sang the s–– out of it."

And he's not the only one giving the song a little recognition. Gwyneth Paltrow busted out a TV-friendly version of the song on Glee.

"I was pleasantly surprised, and I was impressed," Green says of Paltrow's rendition of his song. "I had no idea that she was a vocalist in the least bit, and she did a great job."

Natalie Portman Is Back on the Carbs After Black Swan

Natalie Portman had to change her eating habits significantly to play a prima ballerina in Black Swan, but once filming ended, so did all the dieting.

"It was just pasta and bread and pizza all the time," Portman told PEOPLE of her post-Swan diet at the film's Tuesday premiere at New York's Ziegfeld Theatre.

While filming the psychological thriller, though, a change of eating habits was key. "It wasn't really giving up [food]," Portman, 29, says. "It was just smaller portions … It was more quantity than a particular thing."

Another challenge: the grueling yearlong dance training it took to get into character.

"Working five to eight hours a day for a year … it's what real dancers live through," she says. "It was an amazing experience, but definitely a difficult one."

It didn't hurt that the actress, who has already nabbed a Film Independent Spirit Award nomination for the role, trained with choreographer Benjamin Millepied, whom she subsequently started dating.

"He knows how to change when things aren't working well," Portman says of their working relationship. "Sometimes I just couldn't do something. No matter how hard I worked, I couldn't do it. He would fix it to make it something that I could do."

Praising her beau's "creativity and intelligence," the actress says, "He was really flexible. Working with film and working with actors rather than dancers, that flexibility was key."

REX USA; Fame; AP; Retna

From the queen of Hollywood to a princess in waiting, Barbara Walters has revealed eight of the 10 names on her 2010 Most Fascinating People list.

Sandra Bullock and Kate Middleton are joined on the list by Justin Bieber, Betty White, LeBron James, Sarah Palin, new American Idol judge Jennifer Lopez and the cast of Jersey Shore.

As usual, Walters won't divulge the final names – or the overall Most Fascinating Person – until the special airs Dec. 9 at 10 p.m. EST.

Middleton was a prescient choice, having reportedly been selected for the list before word of her engagement to Prince William broke this month.

Palin, meanwhile, makes a return appearance, having been featured on Walters's 2009 list as well.

Walters has chosen a woman as her overall Most Interesting Person in each of the past five years: Michelle Obama (2009), Tina Fey (2008), J.K. Rowling (2007), Nancy Pelosi (2006) and Camilla Parker Bowles (2005).

Will Lady Gaga make the cut? Who is your top guess for 2010?

NCIS's Cote de Pablo Loves Her Boyfriend for Being a Bad Influence

People love to talk about how their partner makes them a better person. Cote de Pablo, refreshingly enough, cherishes her boyfriend for the opposite reason.

"I'm in a long-term relationship with [actor] Diego Serrano, and I'm very happy. He's the worst influence that I have ever had in my life, and I love him for it," the NCIS actress, 31, tells Prevention magazine in its January issue, on newsstands Nov. 30.

"Every once in a while, he turns to me and goes, 'Live a little.' I'll have chicken with broccoli and he's like, 'What about the chocolate cake?' If it weren't for him, I'd be the most boring person in Los Angeles."

She and Serrano are a nice mix in that way. "My partner's idea of fun is to dress up, get in the car, pump the music, go clubbing. I could not be further away from that. I love being at home, having friends over," she says. "So, we balance each other."

De Pablo also talks in the interview about her past weight gain – she put on 15 pounds at one point when she went off the pill and took Depo-Provera for birth control.

"There were two ways of looking at it," she says. "You would say, 'Oh, God,' and cry about it, or say, 'You know what? This is who I am. I'm going to be carrying a little more weight, and I don't care.' Sometimes nature needs to do what it has to do to get something out of your system. And then, once it's out, you're fine."
